myBlueprint Portfolios are multimedia-driven, and support a wide variety of different file types. The only common file formats which we don't allow you to upload are those which are incompatible with playback or previewing in most Web browsers. Want to know exactly what kinds of files you can add to a portfolio? Read on!

The maximum size for any individual file is 500 megabytes. If you have a file larger than this which you wish to post in a portfolio, we recommend uploading it to Google Drive or another cloud storage platform, then clicking Add Box > Add Media and posting it as a URL. You can add as many files as you wish to a portfolio - there are no overall size limits for portfolios with multiple attachments.

The supported file types are as follows:

Images

  • .bmp
  • .dib
  • .gif
  • .jfif
  • .jpg, .jpeg, .pjpeg
  • .pjp
  • .png
  • .svg, .svgz
  • .tiff, .tif

Video files

The recommended video file format for optimal compatibility is MP4, encoded with H.264. Our recommended Web browsers for Windows and Mac OS are Google Chrome or Firefox.

The file formats for video are often 'container' files which may have video or audio encoded in many different ways within them. While myBlueprint allows uploading any of the file types below, certain Web browsers and devices may not support playing back less common audio/video encoding formats.

  • .ogm
  • .wmv
  • .mpg
  • .webm
  • .ogv
  • .mov
  • .asx
  • .mpeg
  • .mp4
  • .m4v
  • .avi

Videos recorded directly in myBlueprint are uploaded in the webm format, which is widely compatible with most browsers and devices. The only common devices which do not support webm are iPhones and iPads, and the Mac OS Safari browser. To learn more about playback of webm files, click here.

If you encounter any issues with the video not playing, seeing the video but no audio, or vice versa, please try saving your video in a different format. You can also download the video file from a portfolio in Chrome by right-clicking on the video, then Save Video As..., to save and play it back in an application that supports a wider range of formats, such as VLC Player.

Audio files

  • .wav
  • .mp3
  • .m4a
  • .oga, .ogg, .opus
  • .mid
  • .amr
  • .aiff
  • .wma
  • .au
  • .aac

Documents and other files

  • .doc, .docx
    • Note: the legacy .doc format is supported for upload and access in portfolios, however users may encounter errors in the file previewer when accessing .doc files with more complex formatting such as tables.
    • In such cases, you can still download the original file and view in Word. If possible, we recommend re-saving files as .docx before uploading (the default file format used by current versions of Microsoft Word).
  • .txt, .text
  • .ppt, .pptx
  • .pdf
  • .rtf
  • .odt
  • .xls, .xlsx

File types not supported

Any file types not listed above are not supported for uploading into myBlueprint portfolios. Two common examples are listed below with work-around options:

  • Apple Pages or Keynote files (.pages, .key) - these files can be saved in Microsoft Office or PDF format for upload to myBlueprint
  • .HEIC files - this is a new format used by iPhones and iPads for storing video and photos. If you upload an image file directly from your iOS device into your portfolio, it will be automatically converted to a supported format. The only way you may encounter an HEIC file you are unable to upload is if you save a file from iOS into cloud storage (e.g. Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and attempt to upload it from there.

Still have questions, or encountering any issues with supported files as outlined above? We're happy to help! Send us an email at support@myblueprint.ca with the details of what's occurring. If possible, it's helpful if you can attach the file itself, or if it has been uploaded to a portfolio already but you're having trouble accessing it, let us know the email address of the affected account.
